After having riden through Devizes many times and seeing various signs to places of interest, it was on my list of places to visit and stay overnight.
And so, on the 23rd of April, we set off to our chosen B&B in the centre of Devizes - the Black Swan.
Instantly welcomed by the owner, Mike, and his son-in-law, Michael (no chance of confusion then!) and the barn opened to accommodate the bikes.
Devizes, apart from having a brewery (Wadworths) is home to 21 pubs (at the time of writing although with the UK governement hell-bent on destroying them or putting them out of business, who knows how many there will be in years to come when this article is re-read?). Most of them are tied to the local brewery (something else the UK governement doesn't seem to want to help with!) although one is an independent and stocks at least 4 different beers, not from Wadworths.
That said, many of the pubs looked very good although we only visited a few before returning to our own hotel/pub and staying up chating to & drinking with, Michael in the evening.
Prior to our assault on our livers, we had walked the Caen Locks - a series of 29+ locks, one-after-the-other on the Avon & Kennet canal. Going down them was easy. Coming back up made us ready for a drink although prior to that, Alan bought himself a iPod for the first time!
Definitely worth a stay.
