Spiggie beach with dog

Not content with two Inguinal hernia's, I've now had an Umbilical Hernia operation!

It's not that I like hospitals or anything (but neither am I afraid of them) but following my previous hernias in 2000 and 2006, the umbilical hernia that was present at the time of the 2006 hernia and which the consulatant at the time had suggested he 'fix that as well' but I couldn't agree as it was being performed under medical insurance I had with BT at the time.

Anyway, it hasn't given me any problems although a pop-out bellybutton doesn't, in my opinion, look very pleasant but I decided it was time to bring it to the attention of my GP. He referred me to a specailaist who immediately said it should be fixed.

The GP had told me that there was a waiting list but when I asked roughly how long, he said '...oh, around 2 months'! Not quite what I had been expecting - more like 3-4 years or something but, then again, this is the Isle of Man..

Anyway, without too much gore, I had a pre-op interview on the 1st October and the operation on the 4th October.

My reporting time was midday on the 4th and Ken dropped me at the hospital by 11:40. There was supposed to be one person ahead of me in the schedule but, due to his complications of Aorta malfunction and diabetes, they cancelled his operation so I was moved up the list. However, listening (although trying not to!) to his condition, it did make me feel glad to know I'm reasonably healthy and that there are a lot of people a lot worse off than me.

My watching of an episode of Merlin on my laptop (of course I had my laptop with me!) was rudley interrupted when I was told to get into my gown as I was 'going to theatre now' at 13:15 and not 14:30 as I had originally been told.

Awoke in recovery room and, I think, the time was 14:45. Wheeled back to the ward and slept until 16:45!

No side-effects like in the past and I was up and walking by 17:30, had drunk a couple of cups of tea, had a pee (vital before they let me out) and called Ken to request pick up.

Home by 18:30 and the start of a few weeks recovery, safe in the knowledge that I dont have to do ANYTHING for a few days.
