The current Director of Highways, Richard Pearson, has announced that he is to leave his position citing the upcoming changes in Government structure. First reports suggested he had 'resigned' but I thought that unlikely as that would mean he would walk away with nothing - well, at least that's what happens in the real world when someone leaves their job. However, it then emerges that, due to the changes made to the IoM Governments 'Voluntary Early Redundancy' terms and conditions, he has taken 'Early retirement. That's more like it - walk away but make sure there's a handsome payout for doing so! He goes on to say this has been going on for the past year and he has been actively seeking jobs in the UK. That shows commitment to the Island, doesn't it? Personally, I'm glad he's going. He, like many other of the unelected, overpaid senior Civil servants and government employees, have consistently come across as all-knowing and arrogant in the extreme.
