In April 2023, I finally managed to visit another major group of islands making up Great Britain - Orkney.
Leaving home on the 3rd, I drove to Berwick Upon Tweed for a couple of nights to explore an area I had only visited briefly in the 1970's. From there, I stayed in Inverness and a final night in Thurso before boarding the ferry at Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope on South Ronaldsay.
I was extremely lucky to have the use of a house on South Ronaldsay which I used as a base to visit the rest of the mainland and a number of sialnds including Westray, Pap Westray, Sanday, Rousay and Hoy. I had intended to also visit North Ronaldsay but foggy weather denied me that.
