For the first time in years, I connected to Sky TV today. It isn't a standard subscription but one that Sky have introduced to allow those of us that are not provided with 'FreeView' signals to watch the free-to-air prtograms.
For a one-off payment of £150.00, I got a 'sky box' and a 'mini-dish' along with a 'viewing card' (I wonder when these words will be added to the OED - if they're not already in it!).
This combination of things allows me to view the standard channels available to those of us too tight to pay for a cable or sky subscription and include such gems as all the BBC channels along with ITV1, 2, 3 & 4.
You can also pick up Channel 5 (if you want to) because that too has never been available in the Isle of Man (not sure whether that's good news or bad news really)
However, as the installer said, it is a great advertising gimmick because you can see all of the other things available and presumably a lot of people upgrade & pay the extortionate £45.00 a month.
Sod that.
There's not that much on TV to watch anyway and I've lived without it for about 4 years now so can't see me upgrading just yet... Maybe if I get really bored next winter.. We'll see
