Why are more and more public signs used by local councils, the emergency forces and even the government being shown in metric measurements such as 'metres'?
Are we not still an imperial country (with the notable exception of the currency - and that was a con back in 1971.. did anyone notice how everything was rounded UP when we lost the old halfpenny's and farthings?)?
As such, measurements should still be given in Miles, Yards, Feet and Inches.
It's not good enough to say we are doing it for the benefit of visitors to our country or to make it easier for schoolchildren.
If that is the case, the government should hold a referendum to find out the opinion of the people of the country and not introduce it by the back-door as so many things in this country now seem to be done.
