Three Castles in three days.

After having not visited a castle for many years, I find myself at three of them in as many days!

As part of an advance purchase rail ticket, I visited Arundel castle on Wednesday. An imposing structure often observed from the A27, each time saying to myself 'I must have a look around there sometime'. Well, I finally managed it.

Happy to have visited and another tick in the box but wouldn't go back. Wasn't impressed by the ticket office staff and their pricing policy seems so complicated... One price to visit the grounds only, next price to visit the castle Keep, a bit more to visit 'the rooms' (but not told which rooms) and a final £2.00 to visit the bedrooms!

It all seems a bit easier to understand looking back at it but at the time, faced with such a range of choices, unfriendly ticket staff and a queue of people, it all seemed much more complicated! Never mind, the beer in the pub made up for it afterwards!

The 2nd castle was seen on the same day. As part of the 'rail rover', we then went to Lewes, home of Harveys brewery. I wasn't aware at the time, or if I was, I had forgotten, there is a castle there but by the time we were looking at it, it had closed for the evening so that was cheap option!

Finally, on Friday, during a visit to Swanage, Martin, Vicki and I went to Corfe Castle. Partly-demolished after the English Civil war, there is a lot of history there and some fantastic views of the Isle of Purbeck and across to Bournmouth and Poole.

There you go - 3 castles in 3 days.
